MOUNTAIN RESEARCH started its history in 2006 after its predecessor GENERAL RESEARCH's brand termination since its launch back in 1994. GENERAL RESEARCH was known for its numerous pocket features combined with military, utility, motocross, punk and sometimes political essence.

The founder Setsumasa Kobayashi's idea was to change his researching from "in general" to "focus" onto a specific subject i.e. mountain. Mountain Research goes beyond stereotype outdoor activities and is about life in the mountains with an anarchist philosophy-mind-spirit. He is also one of the most important influencers and pioneers within the whole Japanese outdoor scene.

Not necessarily technical or light-weight, but definitely anarchist, mountaineer, saunterer, biker, punk and protester!
